Remove Top Hits from Mac Mail High Sierra

After installing High Sierra, whenever I do a search in mac mail the first two items that show up are "Top Hits". I am used to the latest emails showing up. This is extremely disruptive to my workflow and causes me to make mistakes.

How can I remove the top hits search line from mac mail?

Up until now I had not noticed this!

I get the Top Hits thing for some searches, but not others, and so far I have not found a pattern.

It does not seem to be a function of the number of hits, as I got some very large and some very small without the top hits.

I can't find anything in preferences that we can change, either.

The "show most recent messages" feature in Preferences is in relation to how you view multiple emails in one conversation. It means that the latest reply or response to an email will be shown first and the associated emails will be grouped with the newest response/reply. Regrettably it does not solve the "Top Hits" frustration.

Sorry, but that is not what the original question is asking. It's not about hiding part of an email conversation, Conxion question is about the "Tops Hits" feature that appears when you search for an email using the search bar. At the top of the results of a search, mail now shows what it thinks is the top two emails that match what you're searching for. They label them "Top Hits". Rarely do they get even close to what you are search for. This appears to be a new feature of High Sierra.

This "Top hits" is very annoying, there is something in binary: cat Mail | fgrep -a 'TopHits'

This does not make any sense.

This, however, could:

but i can't find the place where option should be written by defaults write to prevent this "Top hits" feature.

i.e., there could/might/may be a command starting with

defaults write com.apple.Mail

to turn this feature off. I suspect there isn't one.
