edit HEIC files in Photos on Mac
The pictures taken with my Iphone 7 with iOS 11 are uploaded to my Photos library in HEIC format.
When I want to edit them on my Mac with OSX 10.11.6 I can not even view them

HEIC/HEIF and HEVC are not yet fully supported, even on HIGH Sierra. The document explains how to change the settings on your iPhone, to ensure the photos and videos are taken in a more compatible format or download to devices without HEIF support in a more compatible format.

When you upgrade to High Sierra, Photos can read HEIF/HEIC, but not yet export it. Ad it will depend on the model of your Mac, if Photos will be able to play all HEVC videos. But you can play the HEVC videos on High SIerra in QUickTime Player.
