Powering on Apple TV 4K always asks for "speakers"

Greetings,

I have a Yamaha RX-V483 4K receiver, Samsung 75MU6300 4K TV, and the new Apple TV 4K. I run all components through the receiver and then into the TV using 1 HDMI cable. (Good quality)

Every time I start up my home theater setup to the Apple TV input (Harmony remote) the Apple TV "always" asks for the "speaker" output. The available choices are 2 other Apple TVs in the house and the Yamaha receiver. The check mark is always on Apple TV 4K. To get around this I just click menu each time and to goes away but it really confuses the kids.

What is going on here? Is there not a setting that can always force the Apple TV to stick to the Apple TV 4K to stop asking this upon start? I don't have any kind of HDMI ARC setting turned on to run some type of control etc. I also turned off the IR setting or "control" other HT devices etc.

Cheers!

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.5

I found the fix for this problem. As correctly pointed out by someone earlier, this is due to the default power settings when using the Harmony remote. Here is the fix for those of you using the Harmony Companion (formerly Home Control) or Smart Control. (This may work with other Logitech Harmony products as well, but has not been tested by me.) I performed these steps using the Harmony software on my iPhone.

1. Click the "Devices" tab

2. Click "Edit Devices" at the bottom of the screen

3. Click "Apple TV"

4. Click "Power Settings"

5. Click "NO POWER BUTTONS ON MY ORIGINAL REMOTE"

6. Click the right arrow on top to save this setting

After making these changes on your smartphone, don't forget to sync it with the Hub. Here are the steps for that:

1. Click on the three horizontal lines on the top left corner of the Harmony app screen

2. Click "Harmony Setup"

3. Click "Sync"

4. Click "SYNC NOW"

The Hub's green light will turn red and flash. Wait till the flashing stops and the light turns green. Then click on the "Watch Apple TV" or equivalent button on the remote or on your smartphone.

Hope this works for you guys.

In the Harmony app, go into settings, then devices, then choose Apple TV. the screen will show 5 settings; choose power settings. On the next screen, I didn't change the "power off when not in use" and clicked the arrow in the upper right to proceed. The next screen asks if you use one or two buttons to power on/off. I had to select two buttons to proceed to the next screen, which is power settings. this screen has 2 click boxes, one for power on and one for power off. clicking on these brings up a screen to select the action to perform. It was default set to "play" for both on and off. I changed it to "direction up" in both sections, then right arrowed thru to confirm. Seems to have solved the issue.

I’ve been having this problem also. I think I figured it out.

In the harmony app under setting do the following:

1. Click devices

2. click Apple tv

3. Click power settings

4. Select turn off when not in use then right arrow in upper right of screen

5. Select using two buttons then right arrow in upper right of screen

6. Select power off

7. Select menu

8. Select command

9. Change menu to home

10. Change duration to 3.5s

11. Right arrow in upper right of screen

12. Select play

13. Select command

14. Change play to select

15. Change duration to 3s

16. Select right arrow in upper right of screen

17. Select add delay

18. Modify duration to 2000ms

19. Select right arrow in upper right of screen

20. Select left arrow in upper left of screen

21. Select right arrow in upper right of screen

Hopefull, that should do it!

I believe I have an answer here and my guess would be that you are using some kind of Harmony remote?

If so, apparently the consensus is that Harmony remotes sends the equivalent of a long-press of Pause/Play for events which in tvOS 11 is the shortcut to bring up the speakers menu.

Not sure how to fix it yet or disable in the Harmony activity... Maybe change the delays?
