Apple 4K TV connection
My new Apple 4K TV is hooked up to the new Sony with a HDMI 2.0 or 2.2 cable. Do I also need to connect the Apple TV directly to the modem via a 6e network cable?
Apple TV 4K, iOS 11.0.2

Thanks but I need a bit more clarification.
The TV is 4k and is connected via ethernet to the modem and to the Apple 4K TV via HDMI 2.0 or better.
Given this, do I NEED an ethernet connection between the Apple TV and the modem?- advantages or is it redundant?
No. As long as the Apple Tv has internet access that can support the 25mbps required for 4K it doesn't matter how its connected.
You can use an ethernet connection if you really want to in place of Wifi as you can only use one connection type at a time. Or you can keep Wifi if you want as long as the Wifi can deliver the required bandwidth.
Ethernet is an option if you want to use it, but is not necessary unless the Wifi connection is not fast enough.

You can connect the Apple TV over Wifi. As long as the Apple TV gets sufficient bandwidth the connection mechanism does not matter.
For 25Mbps (minimum suggested for 4K streaming), Standard Wifi, or even Cat 5 ethernet cable should be enough.
Thanks but I need a bit more clarification.
