iPhone6 microphone not working in app

Hi there,

I have a new iPhone6 (2 months old) and the microphone seems faulty. I am wanting to use it in a sleep tracking app, and it is not recording anything.

The app is switched on in the microphone privacy setting, so I have allowed access.
Tested the voice memos, it is picking up but plays back very quietly even with the speaker volume at maximum.
It has the latest operating system update and have switched the phone off and on so far, but am frustratingly stuck!

Please help!
