Iphone downloaded 3Gb data in 90min

Hi, I’ve had my IPhone SE about a year with no issues. Last night I was out to dinner with a friend and between 5:30 to 7pm my phone allegedly downloaded 2-3GB data according to my mobile/cellular provider (new month data kicked in 5 days prior with 1.5gb limit). I only noticed when I checked my phone at the end of dinner and found 19 text messages from my provider saying I had exceeded my data limit and debitiing my account 17 times ($10-15 a go) My phone was so hot and my battery was drained. On my service providers data stats it says I downloaded about 4 x 200mb in 13min then there are about 10 pages of 8mb every few seconds. I immediately turned of my mobile data. My hotspot was not on and wi-fi assist was off. Is this some sort of hack into my phone? Any help would be appreciated.

Go to Settings>Cellular. You can see cellular data usage broken down by app there. Should be pretty easy to pinpoint the culprit.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities, don't panic- iPhone is the most secure device in the world and hacking into the device is extremely rare.

This is most likely due to Background Processes like iOS Software Updates, or iTunes & App Store updates. Settings > Mobile Data and scroll down, and all apps using Mobile Data will show.

Though you say it was over 2GB, in a space of a very short time without Mobile Hotspot being active, there could be a potential glitch with your device,

Try updating to the latest version of iOS, iOS 11.0.3 (released today) and get back to me if you have any issues. In future, try and use Wi-Fi over Cellular LTE.

That's pretty strange, I suggest you take your iPhone into your Carrier and inquire about a potential refund.

Thanks, I have my mobile/cellular data set to off for automatic downloads In the iTunes and App Store and iOS updates only happen when im on wifi and plugged in. There is nothing standing out under mobile data (photo below in next response) so I guess my phone had a $250 glitch....yikes! I find it strange that I can’t even download a movie on home wifi in 13min but I allegedly downloaded 800MB on 3G.
