If your question is can you backup to a BlueRay DVD then the answer is no. You should be using Time Machine which is pre-installed on the computer and only requires an external HD. You can also create a bootable clone of your HD using either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. I have some that are 10+ years old and still work great. When a HD fails, replacing it is a 5 minute process as you can re-use the enclosure unlike the inexpensive WD, Seagate, etc.. EHDs. As they have much better cooling characteristics than most of their competition, this translates into longevity and lower overall cost of operation.
These 2 reply's solved my question. I have Roxio Toast 16 Titanium. My 2TB Time Machine has internal disk error and I need to replace it. My WB 3 TB external USB started having problems, TechTool Pro 9, said bad blocks during Surface Scan and gave problems doing backups. Thanks for the help.
My TM (2 TB) needs to be replaced, internal disk needs repaired. Is there software I can get repair my TM or does it need sent in? My other option WD 3 TB USB 3 Hard Drive, TM started not being recognized by TM.
You can burn a blu-ray disk, but you will need special software to do it such as Roxio Toast. Macs do not support blu-ray. And, you will need a new disk every time you want to update your backup. However, rather than using such a disk for a backup, it is much better to back up onto an external hard drive as suggested.
