iPhone 8 Youtube lower quality over cellular

I have an iPhone8. When I watch a Youtube video over my cellular network in the Youtube app I'm not allowed to change the quality. Instead it boosts the quality through the roof and chews up my data minutes. I get the error "manual quality selection over cellular networks is not supported." It's pawpatrol for my child, I don't need 1080p extreme video quality, and neither does my data rate. SO it's supported for android's youtube app but not for apple's?? Can someone give me a way to change this or a substitute app that can change this? ~JV

Use Safari or google chrome, and watch YouTube thru that instead by going to youtube.com. Then Tap on the gear icon next to the video that you want to watch, and tap on "1080P." That should get you very good quality. But remember that high quality video will suck up your cellular data plan pretty quickly. Avg. 120 minuted HD video = 3.5 to 4GB of data. So just don't get overcharged!
