Sleep issue with MacOS HighSierra 10.13

Hi everyone,

I've been noticing a couple of issues since I updated my MacBook Air (Early 2015) to MacOS 10.13:

  • First of all I noticed that when I leave my MacBook on without "interacting" with it for some time it not only goes to sleep but it kinda turns completely off: when I press a random button to wake it up, it won't go back on so I have to press the "turn on" button and it looks like it boots up from scratch....
  • The second thing I noticed is that if I close the MacBook while it's on it goes to sleep but then when I open it up it doesn't ask me for any password, even if I set it up so that it should.....

Do you guys have the same issues? Does anyone know the solution?

Thank you very much in advance.

I ran into the same issue, but got some hints from some Mac friends. They suggested looking at the Activity Monitor and I noticed that Photos was running some background tasks with high CPU usage. After the initial upgrade to High Sierra, Photos will run a background task to index things like faces and places. This is likely a different index than Photos under Sierra. This background task took over 2 weeks to run and fully index. Once the index was fully built, then my Energy Savings setting kicked in and my Mac would go back to sleep after inactivity.

2)I’ve checked both settings already

Did you take a test on sleeping time?

In Security & Privacy - General setting, you can set time for "required password" after sleep.

Set 1 min. , for example, and make your Mac sleep then make it wake up before and after 1 min.

Also, make sure to uncheck "prevent sleeping automatically when the display is off", and turn off automatic login ,which might not be for sleeping though.

After these test, If you are not asked to login after sleep, call Apple.

This started for me immediately after doing the upgrade. I've modded all the relevant power and sleep settings to no avail. It's SUPER annoying because it dumps all my open tabs on chrome for example after going into essentially the powered off state, when it should really just be in sleep.

If you're having this problem, you should check if you're able to create new users as well. I found I was completely unable to add a user to my system after doing the upgrade.

The latest wave of MacOS upgrades feel more inline with the lower caliber of iOS upgrades I've seen over the years.
