Trying to AirPrint from my iPad to my hp dj 3638. I can only print from the 'hp smart' app. All other apps I have tried (including Word and mail) leave print in print queue with the status 'waiting '.

What worked for me was to reconnect the printer to the router. Then with the printer on but my phone and pad off, force restart each one and then try printing. So far, I think I am into my second week now without any more problems.
To reconnect with the router, I went into the printer menu and basically forgot the WiFi network then linked to it again like you would do on an iPhone or iPad. I don't know if it helped but between that and force restarting my phones and pads, I have been able to AirPrint. I was having some problems a couple of days ago when I could not print. I just turned off the printer and turned it back on. About an hour later, I was able to print again. So far today, I have not had any problems.
3638 is one of the 3630-series printers, and it definitely is Airprint enabled. The question is how to print without using the "hp smart" app.
