apple watch 3 and cellular/ee

Looking at buying the 3 and cellular in the uk , obviously only currently available on EE. Can anyone be more helpful than EE😂 apparently I can’t get it on contract as I do not have my phone contact with them . I’m happy to buy from Apple then get the service from them but then told they don’t do sim only 🤔. Tried in shop and online and told same thing 🤔 how does this work ? Can you only have cellular if you already have iPhone contract with EE . So even if I did get it from EE would that then mean my 02 sim/ number so calls texts etc wouldn’t link to the EE one .

Hi

If you do not wish to sign up with EE for an iPhone service plan that also includes support for the built-in cellular on Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular), then you cannot currently use that feature.

However, when using a different carrier's service plan for your iPhone, Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) can still be paired, set up and used for other features whilst skipping the steps to activate cellular. The cellular feature can then be enabled later, if and when you are using a compatible service plan on your iPhone, whether from EE or another UK carrier in due course.

Apple advises that additional carriers are being added all the time.

Users elsewhere have reported that Vodafone, for example, has advised via online chat support that it will announce service plan support for Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) later this month, with availability beginning in November:

You may wish to contact your preferred carrier to ask about their plans for providing service plans for iPhone that support Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular).

You may also wish to monitor this page for further carriers being added over time:

Sorry I don’t have a shop near me, so can’t go in and can’t even actually see let alone touch a Apple Watch before buying it. My choice is either stick to Fitbit and buy there New Ionic or Apple Watch. Fitbit’s new price tag pushes you towards a Apple Watch that does more for the price tag but Fitbit wins with the constant heart rate as main thing I need although Apple doesn’t do it continuously they have added some others features that may make swop worth it, heart rate study is interesting but again if that comes to uk as well. But calls and texts without a phone was one reason to jump. ( I spent hour or so in swimming pool on the changing room floor unable to move waiting for someone to come help) Seen as Fitbit has to be in Bluetooth range and then still can’t respond or do anything swayed towards Apple even with the loss of constant heart rate monitoring. Although both aren’t actually medical devices a lot of doctors actually will recognise them during treatment. Don’t really want to be wearing both Apple Watch and a Fitbit.

That’s Where it gets confusing obviously you have said Apple have advised others will be added yet Apple just told me there are no plans to add any other carriers at all . 02 told me no update for it to come to 02 ( I have either a year left in contract with them, 2 years if I take the free upgrade offer in November with my phone ) so if it’s not coming to 02 and I was to buy one I would need to swop to EE therefore I don’t want to be upgrading and sticking myself in new contract when I could pretty much sell and buy myself out now and move to EE . although online it’s said 02 advisers have said yes to it happening just no date. You’ve said others will be added but again Apple have just said no, that there is no plans for others to be added. Guy I just spoke to on Apple chat also said would need to be in Bluetooth range / phone nearby for calls and texts though so maybe he wasn’t the best adviser seen as that says works on Wi-fi. I didn’t buy Apple Watch 1 due to all bad reviews , 2 because not much reason to swop from Fitbit to Apple and people still bit unsure . 3 is tempting but frustrating.
