What is launch pad on an MacBook Pro?

I have an older MacBook Pro 15". I use the computer for several tasks, but have never known what LaunchPad or Mission Control are or what functions they perform. Can someone please explain their uses?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), 04/2010-15-inch;

Launch Pad is a reverse port of the home screen from the iPhone.

Mission Control is a way to Un-stack many overlapped windows if you find the desktop presentation overwhelming. It

also has options for clumping up related activities you might want together on a set of screens (called a "space") that do not overlap with other activities. It also includes settings for "displays have separate spaces" if you want to limit the use of one display to one set of tasks..

In my opinion, if you have been using the Mac interface for a while, you are not missing anything by ignoring these options.
