My MacBook Pro gets very hot after about 20 mins use. The apps start to slow down and the system will shut down at times. I received the following error message:

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff800156ac55): "zalloc: zone map exhausted while allocating from zone kalloc.8192, likely due to memory leak in zone vm objects (744302160 total bytes, 3101247 elements allocated)"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2782.70.3/osfmk/kern/zalloc.c:2521

Can someone tell me what is happening with the computer?

Both of those panics were caused by memory leaks, and google chrome was implicated in each of them.

If you want to keep using resource-hungry and memory-leaky Chrome, you will need to do some of these:

• Make certain you have the latest version of Chrome you can RUN (but this may have limited usefulness)

• Restart your Mac more often (at least daily, possibly more often) to clean up the mess Chrome makes

• Buy more real RAM. Your Mac can accept to 16GB in two 8GB DIMMs, provided they are exactly the right DIMMs.

Grant, I would much rather just delete Chrome and go back to using Internet Explorer. Because I never had these issues with this MAC until I started using Chrome daily. Out side of deleting the Chrome app what else do you recommend I do?

Over the past weeks as I tried to get the /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.

I tried this below. And now my documents are missing in Folder. Once I delelete Chrome and start using Internernet explorer do you think that my files will return?

MacBookPro 2013 keeps shutting down - Panic Report

Hi,

Your MacBook Pro likely has a faulty discrete/dedicated GPU. So many of this model have the issue that Apple created a repair program for them; it expired Dec 31, 2016 or four years from the original date of purchase, whichever is longer, so if you're still within that four year window, get it fixed asap: https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/.

You can also try the following to see if it helps:

Install gfxCardStatus (https://github.com/steveschow/gfxCardStatus/releases) and set it to "i" (integrated graphics only). It will allow your MBP to run on integrated graphics only, bypassing the discrete/dedicated GPU which has the issues. This may allow your MBP to run normally, although it will have reduced graphics performance when performing demanding graphics tasks. The alternative is replacing the logic board, which is not cost effective on a machine that old, unless gfx does not resolve the issue and you really want to keep this MBP.

Grant I finally got to the reports page. I have two panic reports I will send to you.

The "Library" folder at top-level is difficult because it is often hidden. Using the technique you are using, you should be trying to get here:

User uploaded file

--------

from the finder's GO menu, choose "Go to Folder" (near the bottom of the Menu)

paste the corrected string into that window and press return

the window that opens should be exactly the

DiagnosticReports window, showing all sorts of Diagnostic Reports including panic logs.

Hello L cruising,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing issues with your MacBook Pro shutting down unexpectedly with an error message. To help resolve your issue, please follow the steps in this resource on your situation.

OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

Cheers!

Oct 17, 2017 8:40 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alder

The problem is not the computer spontaneously restarts or displays.

And you were trying to help me get the complete panic report. You sent me this last:

My mistake, so sorry. No space in that:

/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

Now

When I tried open the report with: /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

The following was displayed:

Macintosh HD

Am I getting closer to finding the information you need?

Here is the other one: Thanks in advance. I hope this helps me get this issue resolved:

Internet Explorer is obsolete and no longer available from Microsoft. You are running Yosemite 10.10.5 There are a number of browsers available for it in addition to Safari, which is included with MacOS. mozilla FireFox is also popular, and there are several others that have smaller followings.

gfxcard status should have no influence whatsoever on any documents that may have gone missing. In my opinion, your missing documents are caused by a different issue.
