AppleTV 4K 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 HDR auto switches to o Sdr

Hi. After an undetermined amount of time after enabling 4K and HDR, it reverts to SDR upon turning on the Tv.

Sony 2015 TV 65” 4K UHD HDR

Brand new high speed hdmi cable supporting 4K and 40gbps.

Directly connected to television. Sony did some remote debug and saw so signaling issues with the cable

Unfortunately there are no cables currently on the market that are 40Gbps Certified. 18GB is the max at 25'. Depending on the quality of your cable it could be substandard. If you have access to a QuantumData video generator it can test your cable. 18Gb cables are Certified and have a seal such as the top right of the image below.

Also check the inputs of your 2015 Sony as it may have only a single input that is HDMI2.0 - HDCP2.2 capable. If your problem persists you could invest in a product such as BluStream HDMI Signal & EDID manager (HDCP11AB). This unit will fix the issues between the two devices if your TV is HDMI1.4 not HDMI2.0.

Hope this helps your enjoyment of AppleTV 4K.

So yesterday we used a new Active 4K 18Gbs HDMI from Vanco. It is capable of HDR 4:4:4 16bit. available in longer lengths. We used a 35'. Worked like a charm with Apple. HDR 4K 60hz 4:2:2. Find a local custom installer and see if they carry Vanco. Not cheap cables but work very well.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. You're correct, 25 gbps certified cable. No issue with other connected devices in HDR (bray player). Spoke with Sony confirmed my model / software version is fully compliant with HDMI 2.0a/HDCP 2.2 on all four HDMI ports.

Sony TV tech support reviewed the android tv logs of the television and the signal is apparently being lost from the apple tv. Apple TV has crash logs/debug logs. I suspect there is some process getting stuck or hanging on AppleTV.

Any other ideas?
