MacBook Pro and 16x blank DVD

Someone knows if there is a firmware update for the dvd burner ?
The blank dvds on the market are now 16x and it's impossible to find any 8x...
Thanks

You can use 16x DVD blanks. The rating only specifies the maximum speed at which you can record, not the minimum speed.

I can't. On my pc the Sony dvd burner (8x max) had the same problem. I have downloaded a new firmware and now I can record at 8x (not at 16x) but my dvd recognize now the blank dvd.

The dvd burner on the MacBook Pro works fine with a 8x but I get an error message (can not read this disk) with a 16x blank dvd and it does not appears in the finder.

The Taiyo Yuden 8X spindled DVD can be purchased at various sites on the net for as little as 23¢ each, delivered in the USA. They are the very best single-layer DVD media for Mac super drives you'll ever find; Verbatim makes the very best dual-layer DVD media for Mac, as well. You cannot go wrong with either product.

(I sincerely hope this answers your question, Albert, for this thread does not need another rude, ill-considered response like your one to Kappy.)

I don't want this dvd burner to do the job at 16x, I want just to be able to use the 16x blank dvd, the speed is not important.
The fact is : this dvd burner does not accept the 16x and soon nobody will find 8x blank dvds in the stores.
As I said the "old" dvd burners (Sony, LG, etc) have a firmware update and users are able to use 16x blank dvds at a speed of 8x (of course the burner can not go faster).

The blank dvds 16x and 8x are different.
