Apple Watch Series 1 slow performance

I have a 1st generation Apple Watch (42mm case (Model: A1554)).

Since the latest update - WatchOS 4.0 I have experienced a massive degradation in responsiveness on my Apple Watch.

Loading apps, regardless if from Apple or 3rd parties take a long time, they also do not integrate well with my phone (also up to date with latest software) -Some examples:

  • Apple Wallet takes at least 10 seconds to load up, then once loaded and you select a card it will take a while to load the QR code.
  • Starting a new ride on Strava on my watch hangs, so i started it on my phone, but it logged both rides? also The wall
  • launching Activity can take over 10 seconds too.
  • trying to select a workout.
  • etc

Any pointers would be great as its beginning to be unusable 😟

Hi

The following steps may help (check after each):

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone to the latest software:

Restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:

Unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:

If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

Note that Apple Watch Series 1 is a different model range than Apple Watch (1st generation). Be sure to keep this is mind if you ever come to sell your Apple Watch privately, in order to avoid misdescribing it:
