Can't Locate Photo Directory on iPod

I have a 60G video iPod. I imported my vacation pics directly from my new hp digital camera (R927). No trouble importing the pics. I have been unable to transfer the pics from my iPod to my computer using the directions in the manual. The DCIM folder that the manual indicated the pics would be in does not exist. I can find none of my vacation pics on my computer. My vacation pics are still on my iPod.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my vacation pics onto my computer?

Select the iPod in iTunes.
On the Summary tab, tick Enable disk use.
Go to My Computer and open the iPod.
Look for a folder called DCIM. This is where your photos should be. Thiss hould be the smae folder as when you connect your camera to your computer and use Explorer to view the camera.

The regular folders always available on the iPod are Notes, Contacts and Calendar.

The only folders I have there are the 3 you mentioned and one called photos - in the photos folder there is a file called photo database, but it's not a folder and it can't be opened, and a folder called thumbs which has 4 files which cannot be opened in it with file type 'ithm' - please help, I really just want to delete all these photos from my ipod - I don't understand why it is so difficult to find out how to delete something from an ipod - it's not in the manual and would seem something essential.
