Mail preview window (High Sierra)

Since upgrading to High Sierra, I can not work out how to have an email preview window so that if I highlight the email, the content is shown in a preview window (like I used to have).

Can someone please assist?

Thanks

In that case follow x64uk's instructions.

Another description is repeated in the Discussion I linked:

Refer to the rightmost part of the window, where you last dragged the left pane all the way to the right. When positioning your cursor over it, the normal selection cursor will change and bear a resemblance to this

Drag that.

Drag that cursor to the left. Drag it farther than you have been doing, much farther. There will be no visual confirmation of that action until you drag it more than halfway to the opposite edge of the window, or full screen if you are not using windowed mode.

If you are using Mail's "Classic layout" the vertical column splitter becomes a horizontal one: drag up instead of left and remember you have to drag it a lot.

One of those thing that you think you know the answer to until you double check facts before posting an answer (I thought there was a "View" / "Columns" menu item , but that appears to have gone AWOL....)

Could your message reading pane have shrunk to zero width? Try hovering the mouse over the right hand edge of the Mail window, do you see the pointer change to the 'column width resize cursor.

Another thing to try - in mail (app) /"Preferences" /"General" (tab), you could try hopping into and back out of Classic view - see if that resets things.

Additional comment - if you do have a 'zero width' mail reading column - it can be very hit and miss about picking up the edge of the column to drag... You may have to gave several shots at picking up the edge - many times you'll find yourself moving the right hand edge of the window rather than the column divide.
