Rear Camera and warranty

I've had my iphone 7 for about a year now and all of a sudden the rear camera has stopped working. The front one is perfectly fine but as soon as I hit selfie mode, it either goes black or stays blurred and frozen. I've been into Telstra who have said to go to Apple and show them your warranty (which they printed for me) when i enter my apple ID and serial number etc on the Apple support site it says i have no warranty and must pay over $400 for a repair. Is the mobile carrier warranty no acceptable to apple or am i entitled to getting a repair under the warranty at the apple store. Any pointers or consultation appreciated. Cheers

Hi There. This was just what it said on the Apple support online for a camera repair. I'm going to the store this week to speak in person with someone about it. The glass is not broken and the phone is in perfect physical condition. It's just strange that all of the sudden the rear camera has gone on the fritz considering the front camera is perfect.

I'm based in Sydney AU by the way

Hi there ! thats strange because it seems expensive for a camera replacement .... are you sure that they did not offer a replacement of you phone (completely) because the class protecting your camera is broken ? In which case it would explain why your warranty doesn't work since accidental damage is not covered by a warranty.

By the way could you tel us a little more (which country you are in for example) so that we can check the warranty coverage.

For example in Europe a camera replacement costs 59€ so approximatively 69USD

Other than displays and battery, Apple does not repair individual components on iPhones (and never have). The price quoted is for an out of warranty service unit replacement. They will swap your entire phone for a like new service unit. They will not repair just the camera or lens.

Since you are out of warranty, the service replacement unit will come with a 90 day warranty.

Quoting someone a third party repair price without mentioning that the repairer is not Apple is a bit misleading.
