magic trackpad2 charging slowly

I plugged my Magic Trackpad 2 in to charge yesterday at around this time of day. It's still only at 45% charged, according to System Preferences. Is this normal? 24 hours and not half charged?

No, it's not normal. From a 10% start, Magic trackpad should charge to 50% in about half an hour and to 100 % in about 2.1/2 hours. Try not to let it get lower than 10%. If it is less than 12 months old and was bought with a computer, take it back for evaluation.
