Is iLife 09 now abandonware or freeware

Now that Apple no longer sells or supports iLife 09 + iWorks 09, if I can secure a retail copy of each as a download from a reputable site, can I use them on my iMac running Mavericks. I know they are for sale on Amazon, Ebay. Kijiji + other Apple sellers (mostly used at prices much higher than the original copy from Apple + how were these sellers able to acquire their copies legal or illegal). From the Apple perspective are these 2 softwares either abandonware or freeware. I want a definitive answer if possible. Thanks.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), 2.66, 4gigs ram, 1 Terabyte

Any software sold on Amazon is legit.

I bought a lot of older Apple and Adobe software from Amazon.

All legitimate OEM software.

With iLife ‘09, you will want to look for all of the iLife ‘09 update files and install all of these from Apple's knowledge base articles or download articles.

There are a lot of iLife ‘09 app updates to install for OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks.

Thanks Jimmy, I am soon about to upgrade from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, so in the same vein, since I was unable to download Mavericks from the App Store + Apple no longer sells or supports it, I was able to obtain it from a private seller who made me up a USB Key of Mavericks for about $20.00 Can. with the key. I have checked it along with my copies of iLife 09 + iWorks 09 with my Avast Anti Virus Software with only 2 quantserve.com cookies from Google Chrome Tracking showing up (I have subsequently blocked this site), so they are clean retail copies. I have also written to Apple about this, hoping for a reply. Thanks, Ken.

Thanks MichaelPM for the info on the updates for iLife 09. I use Open Office so my interest in iWorks 09 is marginal. I'll just perform the upgrade with Mavericks, then install my copy of iLife 09 (I am not going to install Garage Band just want the other programs). I am in Canada so even from Amazon having to pay in Can. money + shipping + perhaps duty + Can. taxes makes the price too high, especially for such legacy software.

If they are Apple authorized resellers they can legally sell Apple Software provided Apple has not added restrictions to those packages. If they are not (e.g. Amazon, eBay, etc.) then what you get is not subject to authenticity.
