unknown error 0xE80000C

When I connect my iPad to my iMac I get the following error "The iPad could not be activated because an unknown error occurred (OxE800000C). Please try again later.

This is what it looks like when the iPad is connected. I've tried this on 2 different macs and it's the same issue. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this??
