setting up verizon.net imap on mac

I have a verizon.net email address that was moved over to AOL with the big verizon mail move. I got a new Macbookair and went to place my mail n macmail and its a no go. It doesn't allow me to do a manual set up as well as when I click on AOL and try place in my credentials it fails.

Any ideas? I have installed and setup gmail accounts and icloud account but can't get my verizon.net email to install.

Are you still using @verizon.net or do you use @aol.com?

Yes I use the verizon.net and know that it moved over to aol.com. It was working when on my macbook air but recently it stopped so I removed the profile and now when trying to add it back it no longer allows a manual input of the imap.aol.com but automatically goes to pop.

I have done the setup per requested by the web sites and that is where we are stuck as it the macbook doesnt allow the manual set up for me to input the mail server for IMAP.

1. Launch Mail

2. Under the Mail menu select "Accounts"

3. In the dialog box that opens select "Add Other Account." Don't select "AOL." You must set the account up manually.

4. Next from the list that appears select "Mail account" and another dialog box will scroll down

5. Do NOT put real data into this dialog box, rather put bad data like, Email Address: "nuts@nuts.com" and Password: "nuts" in order to create an error condition.

6. In the error message box that pops you will now be able to select the "Account type:." Select IMAP and enter your real Verizon login information, e.g., user@verizon.net, and server names. Incoming "imap@aol.com", Outgoing "smtp.aol.com".

I followed all of this except for incoming I put "imap.aol.com" and it says it won't recognize my user name and password. It did set up an account and it is "offline" but it refuses to accept my login name and password (although I use it online and it works on the AOL website).

I was with apple for like 3 hours just now and your steps got me further they they did. So thank you. And I saw this worked for others. I even deleted all passwords associate to AOL in the keychains so there was no hang ups.

Thanks for replying!!!!!!!! 🙂
