What is "sdcust" under System Reports in Console app?

The title can say it all but ill go into detail.

I usually go in the console app to check up on the logs(under /Library/Logs) to see if my antivirus has updated during the day. One day I decided do check the other report logs and under System Reports i found a log with the name of "sdcust". I tried google searching it to know what the log is about, but nothing came up to tell me what it is. I tried following the path in the finder but it came up blank, in the shared folder for some reason. I checked my family's iMac to see if a sdcust log was created, but no log with the name was found.

Does anyone know what "sdcust" is? What process(s) does sdcust run for a log to be created?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), macOS High Sierra (10.13), console logs

thanks for the reply back etresoft,

I never hear of Bomgar before and im not entire sure what it is, could you explain what it is?

The only applications i have currently installed on my macbook are: Discord, Sophos Home, Malwarebytes, & Google Chrome. I checked the log file of "sdcust" and saw powerstats line for Discord Helper, but im not entirely sure if the log originated from Discord itself.

In terms of the AV software installed on my mac i did thorough research on them so i im fine there.

I only check the logs for Sophos to see if there was an update to the software or if the AV blocked any content; which is a personal preference by me.

Hello again SebasT14,

Yes, you seem to have found out pretty much all I could tell you about Bomgar.

I definitely do not recommend running more than one 3rd party antivirus software. They aren't designed to run alongside some other software that does exactly the same thing. Apple's built-in antivirus runs a bit differently than the 3rd party stuff. But all of the 3rd party programs do the same thing. If you have two programs, running deep within your operating system kernel, trying to do the same thing to the same file, hilarity will ensue.

In terms of the AV software Malwarebytes is actually compatible to run along other antiviruses so no worry of the two conflicting each other.

Do you have any confirmation of that from MalwareBytes?

That is a trick question because the answer cannot be anything other that "no". There are many different types of security apps, many are outright frauds, many others are attracted to the vast profits to be made by selling fear. I see brand-new, industry-leading "endpoint security protection" software show up in my EtreCheck logs every time I update. These are products and companies that I have never heard of. It is absolutely impossible that MalwareBytes can test their software with all of these other, competing products. And then keep that up every time MalwareBytes and every 3rd part app gets updated. Maybe they tested it with your specific version of Sophos, maybe not. It doesn't mean anything just because you can install them both and your computer is still functional. It also doesn't mean that either product will successfully be able to block any adware due to interference with the other. It might fail. It might lock up your computer entirely.

Do you have a link for that? If they really do say that, it would be reason enough to stop recommending them. There aren't many truths left in the world, but one truth you can always rely on is that there are no guarantees. 3rd party software developers do not test for compatibility with their competitors. Any claim that a product works with "any" competing product is patently false.

Hello SebasT14,

sdcust is probably related to the Bomgar remote control system.

I don't recommend running the Console. It no longer as any useful information in it. It is now exclusively a developer tool. The kind of log data you are looking for is no longer available in the Console app. I guess if you are looking for a specific log file that some 3rd party tool is creating, it would probably work for that. It seems very odd that you would have to do that every day.

I also don't recommend running any antivirus. The macOS operating system already includes antivirus capabilities. There is nothing more that you need. If you still want to run some 3rd party antivirus software, you should be aware that many are outright frauds. Of those that remain, there are only a few that are effective. Of those, there are only a couple that won't cause serious performance and stability problems.

I don't know what path you are referring to. I know that Bomgar creates and loads temporary files. Perhaps it is gone now. I assume you realize that someone else has been in control of your machine. While Bomgar is a legitimate product used by some support desks, I can't make any other claims than that. The internet is drowning in frauds and scams.
