Does Migration Assistant do a bit by bit copy?

I was wondering if the migration assistant tool does a bit by bit copy. In situation when litigation is an issue we need to maintain the integrity of the files and folders dates, created, modified etc. Does anyone know any other applications that might work to accomplish this task?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6), null

No, Migration Assistant is not a bit-for-bit copy of the entire disk. Migration Assistant mostly just copies select classes of files, such as your home directory, but not everything in Library, your 3rd party applications if they are in Applications or Utilities folders. It does copy most operating system files, nor any caches, etc...

You should really Google: "mac forensic copy" and find something that tries to save everything.
