iPhone voicemail full

I have an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 11.0.3 on the Verizon Wireless network. I was recently told by a friend that my voicemail was full and that they were unable to leave a message. When I checked my phone app, I only have one message and no deleted messages. When I call my voicemail, it greets me by saying that my voicemail is full and that I should delete saved messages. Again, there is only one saved message. I called Verizon earlier and they were unable to help me and directed me to Apple. I have looked online for help, but none of the suggestions have worked for me. Call forwarding is off, I have tried calling from a different phone and get the same thing, I have tried resetting my network settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Nate

The message comes from the Verizon server, and has nothing to do with your iPhone. It could be that the mailbox on Verizon's server is corrupt, or that you have deleted messages still using space. If you can't find those messages check the length of the saved message. If it is very long that could be the problem.

The other alternative is to call Verizon and ask them to reset your voice mailbox. You will have to set it up again, and enter a new password, but it should resolve the problem.

Mr Finch. I just spent an hour or more with Verizon. They say voicemail on the iPhone goes through Apple servers first. They can't reset it. Apple was on the phone as well and indicated they are aware of the problem and it will be fixed in an update. I almost jumped through the phone as voicemail is critical and can't wait for weeks to be fixed. They encourage everyone to call in to reinforce the importance of a quick fix.

Verizon said they cannot reset your voicemail? Sounds like someone trying to get rid of you. They have the option to do that. Have you tried to access your voicemail from a landline phone as you used to in the past? That would allow you to get into your voicemail system, see if anything is in there, and delete messages from there. Verizon is the only one that has control of your voicemail, not Apple. I would try contacting them again, and try escalating it until you get someone that knows they can reset the voicemail.

Verizon should, if I recall, be able to turn the voicemail off and turn it back on again. I remember that that's complicated by the fact it's an iPhone but that complication is on Verizon's side. They prevent customer service from turning off the voicemail. I don't remember how to override it. But I'm almost positive that Tier 2 tech support can do it. Getting to them can be a little tricky. The first people you talk to, even if you select "Tech Support" are customer service reps, not actual tech support. You may need to keep being very persistent.

Have you tried changing your VM passcode? Sometimes doing anything with a system will give it a kick in the pants.

My only other suggestion would be to go into a Verizon corporate store, if you're near one, and see if they can help. If nothing else, they might be able to switch your SIM to an Android phone, clear the voicemail issue and then put the SIM back in your phone.

A temporary workaround might be to get a Google Voice number. You can then use the voicemail for that with your regular mobile number (there are instructions on the GV page). I did that for years when I had two cell phones and didn't want to have to check two different voice mails.

Wiping the phone would have no effect on that problem.

Again, if Verizon is insisting they can't turn off the email and turn it back on again, I'd suggest moving the SIM to an Android phone, having them turn off the voice mail and then turn it back on and test. If everything's good, put the SIM back in the iPhone and try again.

Have you tried resetting network settings? Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network settings. In theory, wiping it should do that. However, I know Verizon did a carrier update within the last 24 hours (I think I saw the notice this morning) so, who knows.

That must be something that is unique to Verizon, as our family's AT&T voicemail is working just fine. I believe what they are telling you about voicemail going through Apple first is BS. You are connected to the call, and then if it goes to voicemail it is answered, recorded and saved on the carrier's server. When it is sent to the phone, I will agree it will go through Apple, since they are providing the transcription beta. That would be done when the carrier sends a notice to the device that you have received a voicemail, the same as they used to do before Visual Voicemail.

Yes, they cannot reset or even delete my voicemail box because its Apple. Can if it was Android. Yes, I accessed from a landline. It gives you very few menu options, i.e. password rest, greeting change, and thats about it. I cannot get to whatever is causing the mailbox to be full, either on the phone or through a landline. It has to be a corrupt mailbox or similar. Don't know who to contact. Thanks for your interest. Voicemail access is critical.
