Will I have to pay to get my screen fixed on my first gen Watch due to batter expansion?

I’ve had my watch for 2 years. The screen started to come off of my watch and I was wondering I’d I pay for damages that are from apples design flaws?

Hi

Apple advises that you should not continue using a damaged Apple Watch.

Apple does not offer a screen repair or screen replacement service for Apple Watch and Apple Watch is not user-serviceable.

If the issue is not covered under warranty or other Apple policy (be sure to ask), then your Apple Watch may be eligible for replacement via chargeable, out-of-warranty service - or via AppleCare+, if previously purchased.

Contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider to arrange for your Apple Watch to be inspected and to establish your available service options:

I'm afraid that no-one here can ell you what Apple will decide in your specific case. You are not talking to Apple here - this is a user-based technical support community.

Yes, you are most likely going to have to pay for damages to the screen. First off, the watch is two years old, it’s out of warranty and just about all repairs it needs are going to have to be paid for, second, the screen is not covered by the warranty. I had to get a screen replacement done on something that was obvious that it wasn’t damage that was done by me and was a defect and the store that I brought it to said the Warranty should cover it and I then get a message back from the repair center that it was something I would have to pay for as the screen was cracked. It’s just something that is really hard to prove that it wasnt something you did which I was finally able to prove and did finally get them to cover it, but it was only 8 months old so it was still under warranty. Even with Apple Care your watch would still be out of Warranty and you won’t be able get it repaired without paying for it. That said, even with Apple Care, you would still have to pay for it, just a reduced rate.

Hey ayeyoayo,

Theres actually a chance that you may not need to pay to have this fixed. I know for some products where Apple was seeing expanding batteries causing the screen to pop off, they extended the coverage for these products to resolve the issue for the customer. If you go into an Apple Store, they would be able to give you an answer if your Apple Watch falls into this category of devices that would be repaired at the expense of Apple.

Best of luck,

Steven

As I hoped to explain in my previous reply, be sure to contact Apple to establish your options, being sure to ask about warranty or any other potential policy that may cover your issue:

As I also previously advised:
