un-removing person/face

I removed a person/face. Is it possible to put it back in the faces album?

Hello, g.altieri.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you want to know how to add someone back to Faces after accidentally removing them. I may be able to help with this. Check out this article here: Photos for macOS Sierra: Find photos of people

View people in your library

  1. Click People under Albums in the sidebar.

People that you designate as favorites appear in large squares at the top of the window. To make a person a favorite, drag them to the favorites area. You can also drag someone out of your favorites, so they appear in a smaller size.

Tip: To manage your favorites, you can also Control-click a person, then choose Favorite This Person or Unfavorite This Person.

  2. Double-click a face to see the photos of that person.

  3. Do any of the following:

    • Display entire photos or faces only: Click the Photos or Faces button in the toolbar.

      User uploaded file
    • Display all or a summary of a person’s photos: Click Show All or Show Summary at the top of the Photos area.

    • Merge photos of the same person: Position the pointer over the photo of the person, then click Add Name. Begin typing the person’s name, select the name when it appears in the pop-up menu, then click Merge.

    • Rename a person’s photos: Click the existing name under the photo and type a different name, or select a name that appears in the pop-up menu.

    • Remove a misidentified person: Control-click the photo, then choose “[Name] is not in this photo],” or "This is not [Name]”.

    • Edit a photo of a person: Double-click the photo you want to edit, then click the Edit button User uploaded file.

    • Select a photo as the “key photo” to represent all photos of a person: Control-click a photo, then choose Make Key Photo.

    • View photos on a map: Scroll down to the Places area and double-click a photo thumbnail to see the location where the photo was taken on a map.

    • Review and confirm other photos that contain this person: Scroll to the bottom and click Confirm Additional Photos. When Photos presents a matching face, click Yes to confirm the person’s identity. Click Done to stop reviewing matching faces.

    • Designate person as a favorite: Scroll to the bottom and click Favorite This Person. Click Unfavorite This Person to remove them as a favorite.

    • Create a memory from photos of a person: Scroll to the bottom and click Add to Memories.

      Identify and name people

    • Click People under Albums in the sidebar.

    • Click Add People, select the people you want to add, then click Add in the toolbar.

The photos of people you selected are added to the album and you can assign names to them. You can also select multiple photos of the same person and click Merge & Add to add them as a group.

    • Click under a photo to select the name, type a name, then press Return (or choose a name that appears as you type)

All the photos in the group are assigned the name.

    • Combine photos of a person into one group

Photos identifies people in new photos and adds them to the photos of people you’ve identified. If you find more than one group of photos that identify the same person, you can combine the groups into one.

    • Select the groups of photos that you want to combine.

    • Control-click one group, then choose Merge [number] People.

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

In Photos on High Sierra you can do it this way:

You have to find a photo of this person, for example by typing the name into the search field.

Then select one of the photos of the person to view it enlarged. Now scroll down until you are seeing the faces thumbnails below the enlarged photos. click the thumbnail of the hidden person to open the People album. At the bottom of the album will be an option to add the album back to the People album.

If you are still using El Capitan as shown in your signature, you should be seeing a button "Show hidden Faces" at the bottom of the People album.
