Configurator 2 WPA2 Wi-Fi Profile Not Working

Hello,

We have used Apple Configurator 2 to provision iPads since its release (and Configurator before that). Nothing super fancy, just some apps and a wi-fi profile. The wi-fi profile isn't complex either. Just WPA/WPA2 Enterprise along with PEAP, a username and a password. Typically users would have to trust a certificate from one of our domain controllers when connecting to the wi-fi, but everything always worked fine.

Since about two to three weeks ago (maybe since the release of iOS 11?), the wi-fi profile no longer works correctly. Either the prepared iPad indicates there is no Internet connection on the wireless network we're connecting to, or it indicates the password is incorrect. Neither is true. Removing the wireless profile from the device and connecting to the wireless network manually works with the same credentials.

I've created test blueprints with new test wireless profiles and each have the same problem. I've used different usernames and passwords (that I know work on other devices manually) without success.

I'm assuming it might have something to do with iOS 11. I have an older iPad I tested with that is running iOS 8.4 and I was able to apply the test blueprint with the different test wifi profiles successfully. I'm scratching my head on this one. Is there anyone else out there experiencing similar problems or have a solution?

Thanks,

Mark

Hello,

I'm not sure if this will help you, but I imported the certificate from our domain controller into the keychain on the mac we run Apple Configurator on and trusted it. I then added the certificate to the Wi-Fi profile in Configurator and applied the changed profile to the test iPads and those that are running iOS 11 immediately connected without any issues. The iPad that is running iOS 8.4 still prompts to verify the certificate, but then connects like they always have.

So if part of your problem is an invalid certificate, you might try exporting/importing onto your Mac and then adding it to your profile and test.

Good luck!

Thanks Mark,

I'm glad to hear that you were able to find a solution. I had a quick look today but still couldn't get it working. I exported a cert from our dc, imported it to the mac running configurator, trusted the cert, exported and added it to the profile.

We still cannot get the devices to connect, when we try to connect, we are prompted to trust the certificate(which we do).

The device can connect with no issue when the username and password are entered manually
