The Apple TV is a streaming device, no content will be stored. iTunes movies are at a fixed rate so they need to cache a portion before playback begins, the time it takes is dependent on your network.
Check current connection via speedtest.net
Make sure DNS is set to auto
If on wifi try ethernet
Test on anther network
