Cellular Setting Options Gone After 11.0.3

iPad Pro 10.5 (wi-if & cellular) on O2 (UK) - last night updated to 11.0.3 and when iPad came back up, there was initially no cellular connection (searching) then (no service) showing. Wi-fi OK. First try at Re-boot did not help.

Refreshed network settings and Cellular showed as connected and indicated carrier O2 and 4G at the top of screen - see screenshot below. The 4G connection worked as expected.

BUT, the cellular settings menu (connections section) is now missing as is all reference to their being a Cellular Option and the [General] (About) section in settings does not have any reference to sim being present.

Checked my iPhone and there are normally three options under the Bluetooth Button in the main settings menu (Mobile Data, Personal Hotspot and Carrier).

The About section of the General menu also ought to state the carrier name and the IMEI.

The 4G is working but I do not have access to any cellular settings options, and so for example I would not be able to disable roaming.

Based on discussion in iPhone forum for similar issue I have already tried:

  • Force restart
  • Network settings refresh
  • Toggling Airplane mode
  • Removing replacing sim after waiting 2 minutes
  • Various logical combinations of these

Hi Swift62,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that since updating to iOS 11.0.3 on your iPad with cellular service, you're not seeing Cellular options in Settings and the About screen is missing references to your SIM and IMEI number. I know it's important for your iPad to operate as expected and I'd like to help. I appreciate you providing the screenshot and details about the steps you've taken so far, they're very helpful. Based on that information I'd recommend ensuring you have a recent backup of your iPad: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then follow these steps to reinstall the iOS software to your iPad using iTunes on a Mac or PC. Be sure to follow step four closely and choose to "Update" in order to prevent data loss.
  1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
  2. If iTunes is already open, close it. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
  3. While your device is connected, force restart it with these steps:
    • On an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Finally, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery-mode screen.
    • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery-mode screen.
    • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery-mode screen.

  4. When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, let the download finish, then repeat these steps.

  5. After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.
If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After this process is complete, check to see if your Cellular menu has returned, as well as checking for the details you see missing in Settings > General > About.

Let me know what you find.

Warmest Regards.

Thanks for your helpful suggestion, which I followed closely, up to the point that the iPad exited Restore mode, just before the software extraction phase completed.

This left the Update process incomplete and when I repeated the process a dialogue informed me that I could not Update and must carry out a full factory reset, via iTunes

Fortunately, and partly because of your prompt to do so, I had backed up the iPad to iCloud prior to starting.

I repeated your process, but this time selected the Restore option and I am happy to report that after a full re-installation of 11.0.3 and re-set up of the iPad, the settings and menu options for Carrier and Cellular data are now restored. The iCloud backup meant that I was quickly able to get back to normal operation.

Once again, many thanks for taking the trouble to offer your assistance.
