My iPhone became stuck in headphone mode as well since I have updated from iOS 10.3.3 to iOS 11.0.3. I've tried all the suggestions to get it out of it, it didn't work. This morning I updated to iOS 11.1. After the update it booted up and this time it had come out of the headphone mode. To make sure it was now working OK I tried again to plug in my headphones...and... it didn't come out of the headphone mode again. One of the workarounds suggested before, starting the memo app and recording something worked this time, it came out of the headphone mode. So I wanted to see if that was repeatable. I plugged in the headphone again and removed them. It was stuck in headphone mode again. I started again the memo app - it didn't work, the microphone didn't record anything... So I tried another workaround. Hard reset the phone (hold home button + top right button for a while). After that it came out of headphone mode again.

Apple, you have seriously messed up something here.

I have an appointment with your 'Genius' bar tomorrow and let's see how they deal with this. If they are going to tell me it is hardware and it needs to be replaced I am going to annoyingly laugh very very loud in the store.

If you tried all of the steps, the final one is to contact Apple, and at least you have done that. They will examine the device and explain your options from there.

Apple is not here on the forum. This is a user to user support forum, and Apple does not participate here, so your statement isn't necessary.

Since you do not indicate what model of the iPhone you are using, one thing that can be said is there is an electrical sensor, and a physical button in the headphone port to detect the headphone being plugged in with the devices that still use the 3.5mm jack. That area can become dirty, depending on the use and environment. That dust, lint, etc. can be forced in further when the headphones are used, and can cause damage to the port area, not allowing the switching out of headphone mode. Those things can happen, and it seems that the use of the lightning port for the headphones in the newer models should eliminate that issue.

Sorry, emotions.. 🙂

It is an iPhone 6s (still using the 3.5mm jack), same as the one referenced in the first message. I see your point about that area becoming dirty but is highly unlikely as I normally use bluetooth headphones and the headphone jack remains unused. I only used headphones with a 3.5mm jack to see if physically plugging it in and out a few times could get it out of the headphone mode. I would be surprised if it is something physical when an iOS update or the running of an app can change the behaviour. I can reproduce this issue so hope that helps at the Apple store tomorrow.

I find that you say you are not using headphones, except Bluetooth, but are experiencing a problem, and use the headphone plug to try and correct it. If there was any kind of obstruction in there, that certainly would have forced it in further. Just because it isn't used does not mean that you could not get some kind of lint in the plug, if you carry your phone in your pocket. Take a moment to use a strong flashlight and magnifying glass and look in the jack area to see if there is anything visible. Again, Apple can examine the device and determine what the problem is. Good luck.
