.dmg mounts incorrectly

Mac Community:

I just upgraded to High Sierra the other day and now disk image files mount either incorrectly named (picking up some other previously cached mounted image info) and show as empty with no contained files or with broken/Incomplete files from the incorrectly cached image instead of the files that should be on the .dmg. Not all .dmg files do this and sometimes they will work after a few other images have been opened/mounted.

Any idea what's the cause and fix?

Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestion. It was a newly installed 10.10 then upgraded to 10.13 system so it went through the installer's verification twice in pretty short order but I didn't actually run the Disk Utilities. I think I've found the problem.

While I was trying to mount a series of disk images, I had a mounted file share named "Macintosh HD" attached to my file system so since my local internal drive is also called "Macintosh HD", the path "/volumes/Macintosh HD" appears twice. As soon as I unmounted the network share, my .dmg images mount correctly. The path to the .dmg files was possibly being thrown off.

However, now, a week later. my .dmg files are mounting correctly even then, so who knows if that's really related.

Further information a month and a half later:

After an update to 10.13.2 - probably unrelated - .dmg files are once again mounting incorrectly. My previous experience of having a duplicated "Macintosh HD" volume does not apply in this case. My work around has been to mount a number of .dmgs before the one I want and several of those will be mis-mapped to the wrong file but eventually a few will mount correctly. I just leave the one I want for the 4th or 5th one to try. Sometimes then I'll get it mounted all right. Good luck if you run into this too.
