iBook Notes Not Working Properly

A book that I purchased in iBooks is not displaying my extensive notes properly. The highlights in the main text are still there, but the little squares that used to be in the margins of the book to indicate that a note are completely missing. When I go to the top of the book and click on the "Show notes" icon, the Note sidebar opens up, and I can see that my notes are indeed still present, but there is an anomaly in the Notes sidebar as well: all the notes or highlights for any particular section of the book show the same page number. Moreover, clicking on a note or highlight listed in the Notes sidebar does not take me back to the corresponding passage in the main text.

I've already downloaded the latest version of the iBook in question, and I'm already signed into iCloud. How do I fix the notes so that they work properly?
