External HDMI screen or new computer?

I have a Macbook Pro (Late 2009) with all my Adobe programs loaded on it, which I use everyday. I got a blue/pink/red screen just the other day...Took it to get diagnosed and it has a logic board issue (could be a +$900 replacement) and needs a battery replacement (+$200). Apple can not work on this "vintage" obsolete computer. So I'm stuck with either getting a Thunderbolt Mini DP to HDMI cord and hooking my MBP to a screen to do my creative work, or buy a whole new laptop/iMac and repurchase Adobe...

Tips? Suggestions?

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), iOS 10.1.1, null

Hi,

1. Do you need portability? A monitor and bad battery will anchor you to AC power.

2. How well do you like your current MBP? Does it do what you need it to with the apps you use or is it woefully underpowered?

3. Pretty much the same as #2, but relating to RAM.

4. Does Adobe do what you need it to, and you know it well so you don't want to upgrade, learn the new one, and pay for it?

5. Is there money in the budget for a new Mac and Adobe vs a new monitor?
