Text Notification and Do Not Disturb

Is there a way to set up my iPhone SE so that text notifications on my favorites list come through, even when Do Not Disturb is turned on?

Situation example: I want to set up my phone so that only text notifications from my kid's cell phone come through while I'm sleeping.

iPhone SE
Version: 11.0.3
Carrier: Verizon

iPhone SE, iOS 11.0.3, 64 GB

Greetings The_Pooka,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I see that you would like to set up your iPhone SE so that text notifications on your favorites list come through, even when Do Not Disturb is enabled. It's important to make sure that you can receive the text message notifications that you want at any time, so I'll be happy to help.

It sounds like Emergency Bypass is what you need. In the Contacts app, find the card for one of your kids. Tap "Edit" at the top, then tap "Text Tone". On that screen, turn the "Emergency Bypass" switch on. You can do the same with calls by tapping "Ringtone" on the edit screen, if you like. You must do this for each contact for whom you want this feature enabled. Once you do that, you will receive their texts while your phone is in Do Not Disturb or silent mode.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind Regards.

This setting enables texts or calls to break through when I have my phone on silent or vibrate. This is not what I need in a meeting and can get someone shot if on a mission. How do I have "Favorites" break through "Do Not Disturb" BUT, if vibrate or silent is set, it will not sound or vibrate.

Android has this set and easy to use. I imagine Apple does as well but it's not user friendly if we need to as how to use it.

Hope you can help.

Thank you

Mike
