apple tv 4K hdmi port broken

We bought an Apple TV 4K two weeks ago. when we tried to plug-in the HDMI cable, we could not get it inserted. when we had a closer look, we noticed that one of the metal parts inside the port was not in line with the others preventing the HMDI connector from going in all the way. we brought the unit straight back to the shop the following day and they sent it to repairs. we now got a message back that the HDMI port is damaged and that this is not covered by the warranty with as remark 'VMI not ok (ABUSE)'. they also mention that we probably tried to insert the wrong cable. but all we did was insert an HDMI cable. we definitely did not try to insert any other cable! they don't want to help us any further so now we are stuck with a brand new €200 Apple TV that does not work and we have not idea how to solve this. needless to say we will never buy any other Apple product in this shop again.

This happened to me too, upgraded from my Apple TV 4th gen to the 4K model. After a few weeks I unplugged it to relocate it and when I tried to replug it in the hdmi cable wouldn’t go all the way in, I tried a different cable and same issue. On closer inspection one of the hdmi port pins was now bent. I am not rough with tech, I consider myself ‘savvy’ I work in the IT field and deal with equipment like this on a day to day basis.

I managed to straighten the pin out using a safety pin with the end bent into a hook, just enough to allow the hdmi cable to plug in all the way. Although it works, now intermittently the picture will cut out for 2-3seconds maybe once every 10min or so on average.
