Inserting a new ram in my mac that wont go in all the way

I bought two 4 mb Ram memory cards in order to upgrade my Mac which is using two slots at the moment the top ones. When I tried to insert the new cards they wouldn't go all the way in although I heard a click.

I tried several times repeating the same procedure but no result. The cards were the right way up , I did everything by the book.

Please tell me what else to do or haven't done. Help 😊

Thanks

iMac, macOS Sierra 10.12.6

Hummer...

I had that happen on one unit before - I had a Pro desktop loaded out to the max and a mbp 15 inch and two MB 13 inch, and I upgraded a couple sticks and used that memory for the other - the desktop was too old for the ram, so I ended up using one of the memory in both laptops which were by specs the same and only a couple months apart in build - but ONE had SUPER tight tough slots to get ram into - almost broke my finger nails off.

I'd ONE, compare the memory numbers and size to the previous one by holding them together then I'd be very careful when you slide making super sure they slide in perfectly straight until the click snaps in place - a tad too angled one way or another up down or to the side could throw it off.
