How can I create Template Folders Pages 6.3

I'm working in Mac OS Sierra. I am currently building up a lot of pages templates. I want to create new folders in the library to manage the templates rather than having them all under the "My Templates" folder. I have tried going into the hidden files in the ~/user/library/application support/containers folder etc. I tried to add new folders into the directory but it didn't work. I've just got too many templates, and managing them in this single location is unmanageable. Could someone help me figure this out?

That is just one of the over 100 still missing features in Pages 6.3.

Use Pages '09 if you want this or give Apple feedback and wait, …and wait, …and wait, and wait, …

The only way to work around it, is to systematically name your templates with the equivalent of the folder name as a prefix.

e.g. 01 Letterheads…, 02 Newsletters… etc

Even in Pages '09 where you can have subfolders for templates, I always systematically named my templates anyway, because (you won't believe this) if you name things what they are it is actually easier to find them!

Hi Rhansford,

This assumes no change in the process from Pages 5.6.2. If there's been a change, Im sure someone will be along wth further information soon,

When the document you want to save as a template is ready, go to the file menu and choose Save as Template…

In the dialogue that drops fom the top of the document window…

User uploaded file

choose Save…

In the save dialogue, you can navigate to a folder in which to save the template, or use the New Folder button at the lower left to create and name a new folder in which to save the template.

User uploaded file

Name the new template, keeping the .template extension, then click Save.

I haven't checked, but I suspect a template saved in ths manner will NOT appear in the Template chooser, and the folder will not be listed in the Template chooser's sidebar. You will need to open the folder, then either double-click the template's icon or drag it to the Pages icon on the Dock to open it.

Thanks Barry for solving the Template Folder problem. I have a few templates and I badly needed to classify them in Folders.
You are right when you said that "a template saved in this manner will NOT appear in the Template chooser". I created a template and saved it under Documents. Everytime I need the template I had to go to Finder, then Documents to open it. To avoid this step, I wanted it under My Templates. For the first time when I clicked the file, a dialogue box appeared that prompted me to "Add to Template Chooser". Once thus added, this particular template always was there under My Templates.

Creating sets of Folders on your hard drive or on iCloud Drive is probably the best way of managing the present state of affairs.

You will be able to backup and move the templates, which is a big problem with Apple's internalised templates which get lost too often when people upgrade Systems or do clean installs.

To manage the templates name them clearly, as I suggested and DO NOT save them as templates because .template files have a generic icon on them:

User uploaded file

whilst the regular .pages files have a preview icon of the first page:

User uploaded file

This is particularly useful when you select Icon view in Finder and use the slider at the bottom of the window to view the icon at a legible size.

Select the file in Finder > Get Info > check Stationary

so the file opens as a copy and you will not overwrite the original.
