External hard drive permission problem after Timemachine

Hello!

I recently did set up time machine for my external HDD(Lacie rugged mini 2tb usb-c). But I decided not to use it anymore. I disabled the drive in the system preferences in the time machine tab. But everytime i try to anything on the drive - for example new folder- it requires password and denies the access to the programs as well.

If you can help please write something. I’m new to the mac. I have a late 2016 MBP with function keys.

We need to start off by seeing what the permissions are.

Find the external harddrive on the desktop. Click once. then command + i to get info.

Notice that the under Sharing & Permissions: "You can only read". Notice the check box below "[] Ignore ownership on this volume."

Click on the yellow lock icon. Fill in your password.

Check the box. "[] Ignore ownership on this volume."

That should give you access to the external hd.

[ For what it is worth, I thought this was checked by default. I have no idea how my external hd's got unchecked. ]

An external Hard Drive with an Installed System will have permissions active (to protect the system and to protect users from each other).

Also, (as we all just got reminded) Time Machine Backup Drives.
