Smart album for black and white?
is there a way to set smart album criteria to select photos that are in black/white?

No, there is no built in smart album feature for finding black/white images. The following are the only items that can be searched for in smart albums:
A workaround for that would be to assign a keyword, "B/W", to each black and white image as your import them or come across them.
