Touch ID not working with iOS 11.0.3

I updated to iOS 11.0.3 this morning. Pretty happy with the update apart from the fact that my Touch ID is not working. The iPhone 5s does not seem to have my fingerprints stored (which were there before the update to the new iOS) so I cannot delete existing fingerprints. When I click to set up Touch ID for iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store, it goes to the "Touch ID: Start by placing your finger or thumb on the Home Button" screen for a brief second, and then immediately proceeds to the "Failed: Unable to complete Touch ID setup" screen.

I have tried switching the phone off and on a couple of times, as well as making sure there is no dirt etc. on the Home Button.

Hey, smoorikins92!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. I see in your post that you're having some trouble with Touch ID since updating your iOS software. I'm happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I would recommend using the following steps from Get help with Touch ID on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support :

If you can't unlock your iOS device using Touch ID, can't enroll a fingerprint, or you're asked to enter your passcode, learn what to do.

Follow these steps. Try using Touch ID after each step:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.
  2. Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.* For the Home button, use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off any dirt or debris.
  3. Your finger should cover the Home button completely, touching the surrounding metal ring. While Touch ID is scanning, you shouldn't tap too quickly or move your finger around.
  4. If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Home button or the surrounding ring.
  5. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on, and that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
  6. Try enrolling a different finger.
  7. If you can't enroll any of your fingers, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support.

Cheers!
