Thunderbolt Display camera freezes during video chat

Within the last 3 weeks I cannot hold any sort of video conference without my camera image freezing. I have tried Skype, Zoom, Hangouts. I am connecting a late 2016 MacBook Pro with touch bar to my Thunderbolt Display. I have the Apple thunderbolt adapter to usb-c. To reiterate, I have had no problems since I had my MacBook Pro and this set up for about a year. Then suddenly, I can't have a video conf without it freezing.

Internet is confirmed to be quite fast so that is not the issue. I also am able to have video error free on the actual MacBook Pro camera. This is a big part of how I communicate through out the day so I'd like to get this resolved. I have reset the ram, and other suggestions on this board.

Is this a known issue or experienced by anyone else?

Thanks.

For what it is worth, I absolutely am running into the same problem. I have no idea why, but I seemed to have found a workaround. I typically have my lid shut on my MacBook Pro, I happened to open it one day and noticed that my video conference came back alive (via the Thunderbolt camera, not the laptop camera).

Hope this helps for a while until a patch is released (though given Apple dropping the Thunderbolt Display from their product line I'm not sure it's going to much prioritization).

I have exactly the same setup and problem. Late 2016 13" MacBook Pro w/ TouchBar connected to a Thunderbolt display via Apple's USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter. Worked perfectly from December 2016 until the High Sierra update a month ago. Now the camera constantly freezes. Killing VDCAssistant will get the camera working again a few minutes, but then it refreezes.

Using the MBP's camera works fine, but I don't use that when at my desk.

My work around has been less than elegant. I purchased a good Logitech external camera that I plug into the back of the USB port on my Thunderbolt Display. It's working without issue and I know it's a small thing in life, but that camera globbed onto the top of my monitor bums me out. Hoping they come out with a patch for this soon...

Same issue that started with High Sierra running on 2017 13" MacBook Pro with Apple Thunderbolt adapter and Apple Thunderbolt Display. So all Apple stack.

The issue has been here since day 1 of High Sierra. I just came across this thread based on updated search terms... I had been search for things like "High Sierra webex camera freeze". But I can't seem to replicate the behavior with the built-in camera, which lead me to question the Thunderbolt Display itself. And that took me here!

Fingers crossed that somebody will find an answer.

I'm having exactly this issue, with essentially the same setup. I have tried the built in Thunderbolt cable as well as a separate Thunderbolt cable from the MacBook Pro to the back of the display - no improvement. This seemed to start sometime around 10.13.1?

This impacts my ability to video conference, which is essential to my business.

Anyone with a diagnosis or fix?
