"buddy" not responding

"buddy" not responding

i am in dire need of some help. i purchased a new MacBook the other day and was ready to set it up and use ichat with my friends on AIM. the only problem i am getting now is that when i click on the camera button on AIM it loads for a couple of seconds and then says "buddy is not responding" and sometimes it will even say that i am not responding, when i am the one who initiated the video chat. please help me someone.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi Baqnditkid6,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions

If you have updated to 10.4.8 then iCHat is showing you a invite to send a log file to Apple.
This has more details that you can reveal and pick out at least the error number.

Buddy Not responding is normally error 8.

This can be because Ports are not opened or blocked.
This could be on your Mac or with your ISP or with your Buddy.

It can be other things as well

thanks for the reply. im trying to connect with my girlfriend who is using a PC and i tried changing the port numbers on both computers and it still gives me the same error. it keeps saying that im not responding to the request, yet im giving the request. i purchased this computer mainly for the ichat video features and currently i becoming very displeased with the program, if i can get more help on the problem that would be great.
p.s. i do get "error 8" every now and then.

Hi,

What other errors do you get ?
Error 22 ?
Go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and set the drop down to 1.5mbps/T1/LAN and restart iChat.

IS the MAc Firewall On ?
Have you set the ports for iChat in there ?
In the Advanced button is the "block UDP Traffic" un-selected ?

i have done the 1.5mbps/T1/LAN and have restarted iChat. my mac firewall is off, the ports for iChat are set and the "block UDP Traffic" is un-selected. it's just more mind boggiling than anything right now. please help me ralph,lol.

I got mine working, it was my wireless Belkin 54g router, when I bypass the router and wire directly into my cable modem it worked...I am going to the Belkin website and trying to find a fix

Hi Dahnes,

Use this site http://portforward.com/routers.htm
Click on your device if listed.
Click on iChat in the next page.
After making access with the info about the defaults look through your menus for UPnP first (don't do the Port Forwarding unless you have to)
