Recently when I record a program using EyeTV on my Mac Mini (Sierra 10.12.6) the conversion of the recording in a format suitable for iPhone/iPad fails saying that QuickTime 7.1 or later is required even though I have QuickTime 10.4 installed. Previous to this I have been successfully recording and exporting programs.
The QT Player 7 app is really just a graphic user interface (GUI) that interacts with the "classic" QT 7 structures that come embedded in your MacOS along with a collection of other, separate structures that support your QT Player X app GUI. In short, all current Mac OS X operating systems have the QT 7 structure routines available for use even if users don't have the QT Player 7 app installed on their platform. Your issue would seem to indicate that EyeTV can no longer communicate with the QT 7 embedded structure.
I have contacted Geniatech support who recommended uninstalling and reinstalling the EyeTV software. I have done this but the issue remains.
This inability to communicate could be caused by corruption in the EyeTV software, corruption in the MacOS itself, hardware and/or software conflicts in the system configuration, or a combination of the aforementioned. Since you have already reinstalled the EyeTV software, you can likely rule that out as the cause of your problem. Therefore, if you've not installed any new software and/or hardware/peripheral devices recently, you can also rule this out as a likely possibility. (I.e., if you've added any new software and/or devices, try removing/disconnecting them to see if operations return to normal.) Otherwise, your most likely problem would seem to be some sort of corruption in the MacOS itself. If this is the case, the next thing to try would be a re-installation of the operating system. Normally I would recommend first rebooting the platform from an external boot drive having the same MacOS installed on it—assuming one is available. (This essentially is just a quick check to ensure the problem is not a hardware failure in the platform itself which is usually only a very remote possibility.) However, if no external boot drive is available, you can probably move directly to the MacOS reinstall option.
Any advice on how to resolve the issue would be much appreciated.
See logical workflow indicated above and/or review alternate forum topic dealing with corrupted Sierra MacOS posted a few days ago in which use of both QT 7 and QT X structural embeds/associated GUIs was lost.
