For some reason, lately I cannot change default browser on MacBook Pro. When going to setting and selecting "Default browser" dropdown does not show any browsers. Tried restarting mac, does not help. The only thing that helped me for some time was reinstalling Chrome and installing it again.
Maybe someone has any clue on how to change it?
hold the Alt/Option key to open the "default web browser" dropdown, but as I implied, it may be blocked by the installed Chrome app. When you need Chrome to browse, there is no need for that setting, is there not?
Basically I prefer to use Safari as default browser. Sometimes I need to access some websites using Chrome. However, if I read twitter or open links from mail, it automatically opens Chrome, if I have it installed.
Installing and uninstalling app every time I do not need it seems to be only option so far. Though not the best time...

Nope, still can't see any browser there.
If I uninstall Chrome then I can choose browser. The moment I install Chrome (I don't even need to open it) I can't choose default browser.
That qualifies Chrome: a fast browser but very sloppy programming and no security.
Safari in (high) Sierra is as fast and much safer.
I would uninstall Chrome if I were you.
Some apps simply work better in Chrome. That's why I used to keep it.
However, if I uninstall it, everything works fine.
