I have just bought a new keyboard. It has reversed the quote mark " and ampersand @ keys. What I mean is the quote mark on the keyboard, actually prints an ampersand and vice versa when connected to imac

Go to system preferences/keyboard/input sources and make sure that you have only one item on the list. If your new keyboard is from Apple, make sure that item says British and NOT British PC.

If you have gotten a non Apple keyboard, you may need to do the opposite, make sure the input source is British PC and not British.

Hey valeriefrommullion helston,

If I understand correctly, you connected a new keyboard, but two of the keys put the wrong character. One thing you can do is to use the Keyboard Viewer to see which key the keyboard thinks it is pressing. There may also be a global keyboard shortcut that is making it put a different character. I would recommend you read these articles and use them to help troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Click the Input menu in the menu bar, then choose Show Keyboard Viewer.

If the command isn’t shown, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Keyboard, click Keyboard, then select “Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar.”

  2. Click the Input menu in the menu bar, then choose the input source for the language whose keyboard you want to view.

  3. Press the key on your keyboard that corresponds to the character shown in the Keyboard Viewer, or click keys in the Keyboard Viewer.

macOS Sierra: Use the Keyboard Viewer

macOS Sierra: Use global keyboard shortcuts

Thanks for that help, I know what the keys are pressing , but I cannot see how to change that, The easy , but ugly , way is to stick or write on the keyboard, but the better way is to change what happens inside the mac.I know you can change all the "special" function keys so I hoped I could change the 2 in particular.
