Two Kinds of Charts in Numbers

I would like to create 2 charts in Numbers on my Mac. The first chart is just the average miles for each month in a column chart. You can see in my chart that the average number is in a header row as is the label for that month. I just want to be able to see the average per/month in one chart. For all 12 months. Months are the x-axis. Then, in a second chart I would like to see the data in a stacked column chart showing how each year's month has contributed to that total.

Thanks in advance. User uploaded file

I would add a second table for the statistics (the average)... like this:

Add the new table and name the table "Stats"

make the first row and the first column headers.

B2=ROUND(AVERAGE(Monthly Miles::B), 0)

fill this across by selecting cell B2, copy

select cell B2 thru cell M2, paste

To plot the average, select cells B2 thru cell M2 in table "Stats",

then select the bart chart from the chart tools:

to plot the monthly mileage, select column B thru M of the table "Monthly Mileage":

now resize the charts as needed:

Hi Gene,

You wrote: "You can see in my chart that the average number is in a header row as is the label for that month"

And therein lies the problem.

Data in header rows can be used in charts only as data. Move the monthly average figures into the body of the table, and you should be able to easily select that row and chart the data, using the instructions in Wayne's post.

Barry
