Does Mac OS include printer software?

I have two Brother HL-series laser printers that I have depended on for years, up to and including OS 10.12.6. When I attempted (stupidly and unsuccessfully) to upgrade to 10.13, I had the usual asociated problems, gave up on it, and reinstalled a clean copy of 10.12.6. Now neither printer works, in spite of my re-installing the same drivers I was using before my abortive attempt at 10.13. Brother has abandoned support for both printers by now, but I would like to be able to use them. Any suggestions, or is this a lost cause?

It includes some while more can be downloaded from support.apple.com/downloads. If a printer is connected and turned on when installing OS X then it will install a driver or ask if you wish to download one. You can also get the drivers directly from the printer's manufacturer - Brother.
