Can the IPad 1 be updated past 5

I recently was given a iPad I believe it is most likely one of the first ones it is in perfect working condition my only problem is I can't download anything as far as games Facebook Etc because it says I need to update to the latest iOS software can this iPad be updated to a current iOS software
